Lagos, Nigeria — July 7, 2025

In a major educational scandal, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is under fire following a leak of several 2025 exam questions, sparking outrage among students, parents, and education stakeholders nationwide.

According to early reports, questions for core subjects including Mathematics, English Language, and Biology appeared online hours before the scheduled start time, spreading across WhatsApp groups, Telegram channels, and shady “expo” platforms.

🔥 Leaked Questions Surface Online

Multiple screenshots showing what appear to be real WAEC exam questions circulated early Monday morning, causing panic among genuine candidates and calls for immediate cancellation or investigation.

A student from Ikeja Senior Grammar School, Lagos, said:

“We were shocked to see the exact same questions in our exam hall that we saw on social media. It’s not fair to those of us who prepared genuinely.”

🎙️ Ministry of Education Responds

In response to the uproar, the Federal Ministry of Education released an urgent statement condemning the leak and assuring the public that an investigation is underway.

“We are deeply concerned by the reported leak of WAEC examination materials. A joint task force including the Ministry, WAEC, and security agencies has been launched to trace the source of this breach and take decisive action,” the statement read.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, described the leak as a “disgrace to academic integrity” and hinted that those responsible will face criminal prosecution.

⚖️ WAEC Speaks Out

WAEC Nigeria Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Patrick Areghan, confirmed the breach but insists it was “localized and contained.”

“Our systems remain secure. However, some officials compromised their duties. We have identified certain centers where the leak may have originated, and arrests are being made.”

💬 Reactions from Nigerians

  • @MummyJay: “So after all our sleepless nights reading, someone just sells the questions like gala? What a failed system.”
  • @IAmScholar: “WAEC should cancel and reschedule affected papers. It’s only fair!”
  • @NaijaTeacher: “This isn’t new. But it’s getting worse. Integrity is gone in our schools!”

🧠 Will Papers Be Cancelled?

There is growing speculation that some of the affected subjects may be re-administered, especially in schools flagged during WAEC’s internal review.

However, no official rescheduling has been announced yet.
