Jerry Gana, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed confidence that Peter Obi would outperform any contender from the North if he returns to the PDP and runs for president.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Wednesday night, Gana addressed the ongoing speculation about Obi’s possible return to the PDP, despite his involvement in meetings with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party (LP), has not officially declared his platform for the 2027 race.
Gana, however, argued that Obi’s strongest path to the presidency lies with the PDP.
“I conduct research and gather public opinion,” Gana said. “From what I know, Peter Obi running under the PDP would defeat any northern candidate. Our people are fair-minded and value national unity.”
He further stated, “The North is already looking forward to its turn in 2031. For now, the focus should be on building a stronger and united nation.”
Gana’s remarks reflect growing political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties positioning themselves for strategic advantage and voter appeal across Nigeria’s regions.
