President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to visit the Dangote Petroleum Refinery today, June 5, 2025. This marks his first on-site inspection of the facility since he assumed office in May 2023. The visit underscores the administration’s commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s energy sector and promoting domestic refining capabilities.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, located in Lekki, Lagos State, is Africa’s largest single-train refinery, with a capacity to process 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Inaugurated in May 2023, the refinery aims to meet Nigeria’s entire domestic fuel demand and reduce reliance on imported refined products.

President Tinubu’s visit is expected to highlight the government’s support for private-sector-led initiatives in the energy sector and discuss strategies to address challenges such as fuel pricing and supply stability. The visit also aligns with previous discussions about the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) selling crude oil to Dangote Refinery in Naira, aiming to stabilize fuel prices and strengthen the domestic oil market.

The Dangote Refinery’s operations are anticipated to play a pivotal role in Nigeria’s economic development by creating jobs, boosting local industries, and contributing to energy security. President Tinubu’s engagement with the refinery reflects a strategic focus on leveraging domestic resources to drive sustainable growth in the nation’s energy sector.
