Bride Fatally Shot on Wedding Night in Southern France
A bride was shot dead on her wedding night in the village of Goult, near Avignon in south-eastern France, after masked gunmen opened fire, according to local authorities.
One suspected attacker was also killed, while the groom and a 13-year-old child sustained serious injuries. A manhunt is underway for other suspects who fled on foot after the shooting.
French media suggest the attack may be linked to drug-related conflict. Police confirmed that 28 people were present at the wedding party, which was held in the village hall around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Authorities have launched a murder and attempted murder investigation.
Goult Mayor Didier Perello expressed outrage, noting the venue had been booked months earlier by people from outside the commune. “We’ve seen this kind of violence in nearby towns, but never here,” he said.
Local residents expressed shock, with one stating that the last serious incident in the village occurred over a century ago.
