Ahead of 2027, Baba-Ahmed Points to Growing Tensions in Atiku’s Coalition

Abuja, Nigeria –

As political activities quietly gather steam ahead of the 2027 general elections, former spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has raised concerns over what he described as emerging cracks within the coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Speaking in an interview with a national daily, Baba-Ahmed, who is also a prominent political analyst, said the unity within Atiku’s political alliance appears to be weakening, with internal disagreements and power struggles becoming increasingly visible.

According to him, the coalition, which was formed to present a formidable front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is already showing signs of disintegration due to conflicting interests among key stakeholders.

“There is a visible lack of cohesion and clarity of purpose in Atiku’s political circle,” Baba-Ahmed stated. “The ambitions of certain individuals are clashing, and there’s no clear direction on how to move forward in a way that commands public trust.”

He warned that unless immediate steps are taken to mend internal divisions and strengthen the coalition’s ideological stance, it may lose its credibility and support base before the 2027 polls.

Observers note that the coalition, which played a significant role during the 2023 elections under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has struggled to maintain momentum in recent times. With the 2027 election fast approaching, political watchers believe the internal cracks could pose serious challenges for Atiku’s presidential ambition, should he decide to contest again.

Meanwhile, neither Atiku nor his aides have officially responded to Baba-Ahmed’s remarks. However, close allies of the former VP have continued to express optimism about the party’s chances in 2027, insisting that ongoing consultations will lead to a more united and strategic front.
