EFCC Describes Lagos LG Election as Peaceful and Orderly
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commended the conduct of the local government elections held in Lagos State on Saturday, describing the exercise as peaceful and orderly.
In a statement released by the Commission’s spokesperson, the EFCC noted that its operatives monitored the electoral process across various polling units in the state and observed a general atmosphere of calm and compliance with electoral procedures.
“The election was conducted in a largely peaceful and orderly manner. No major incidents of vote buying or financial malpractice were recorded in the areas monitored,” the statement read.
The anti-graft agency, which has been increasingly involved in monitoring elections to curb financial inducement and electoral fraud, praised both voters and electoral officials for their conduct during the exercise.
While acknowledging minor logistical issues at a few polling stations, the EFCC reiterated its commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria through vigilance and enforcement of anti-corruption laws.
The Commission also encouraged citizens to continue participating in the democratic process and to report any acts of electoral fraud or financial irregularities.
The Lagos State local government elections were organized by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to elect chairmen and councillors across the 57 LGAs and LCDAs in the state.
