Kaffy Opens Up on Struggles of Dating as a Single Mother

Renowned Nigerian dancer Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy, has spoken candidly about the challenges she faces in relationships as a single mother.

The mother of two revealed that a man once dismissed her completely as a potential partner simply because she already had children.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, Kaffy questioned the negative stereotypes surrounding single mothers and fathers, stressing that having children should not automatically disqualify someone from being seen as marriage material.

“I’ve had somebody tell me that because I’m a single mother, he can’t even think of dating me since I have two children. But what makes you think a divorced woman who has worked on herself isn’t even a better candidate? What’s the guarantee that two single people won’t also end up divorced tomorrow?” she asked.

The 45-year-old further criticized the obsession with wanting to marry someone “fresh,” pointing out that statistics show over 70 percent of marriages eventually collapse.

Kaffy was previously married to Joseph Ameh, a music director and drummer for P-Square, in July 2015. Their marriage, which produced two children, ended in January 2022 after she cited personal growth and lack of destiny alignment as reasons for the split.
