Imo State All Progressive Congress(APC) Local government congress which was stated to be held today 12th of May,  has been adjourned until further notice.

Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, National Chairman and other members of the Party’s National Working Committee confirmed the development in Abuja after a meeting with the State Governor, Rochas Okorocha on Friday.

Oyegun noted that the development became necessary following a fire outbreak that gutted the state’s APC secretariat located along Okigwe road in Owerri, the state capital on the same day, destroying property and vital documents.

He, therefore, stated that a new date for the Congress will be announced in due course.

The incident created a tense political atmosphere as some members alleged that the secretariat was set ablaze by some yet to be identified hoodlums.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started around 6:00 p.m. during a heavy downpour which made people around the area scamper for safety.

Security operatives and fire service officials were later able to put the situation under control.

While the true cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained, the Imo State Commissioner of police, Dasuki Galadanchi, who later came to access the situation told newsmen that the police will get to the root of the matter.
