[VIDEO/PHOTOS] Anthony Joshua injured in Ogun road crash, two killed

World heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua was on Monday involved in a fatal road accident in Makun, Ogun State, which claimed the lives of two people.
The crash occurred shortly after 11 a.m. along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near the Danco Filling Station and close to the Sagamu Interchange, inward Ibadan.
Eyewitnesses said the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that are still under investigation. Joshua reportedly sustained minor injuries and was rescued from the wreckage before being taken to a hospital for treatment.
A PUNCH Online eyewitness, Adeniyi Orojo, said the boxer was travelling in a two-vehicle convoy when the incident happened. According to him, four occupants were inside the Lexus SUV, while Joshua’s security team followed in another vehicle.

“The passenger beside the driver and the person sitting next to Joshua died instantly,” Orojo said, adding that bystanders assisted with rescue efforts before officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) arrived at the scene.
Joshua, who has strong ties to Ogun State, attended a boarding school in nearby Ikenne. The accident occurred just a few miles from his former school.
The Ogun State Police Command later confirmed the incident, stating that two victims died at the scene, while Joshua and one other survivor were hospitalised. The identities of the deceased were not immediately released.
In a statement posted on X, police said the bodies had been deposited at the Livewell Hospital Morgue in Sagamu and assured the public that a full investigation had commenced.
The FRSC, reacting to the incident, disclosed that preliminary findings suggested excessive speed and wrongful overtaking as possible causes. The agency said the Lexus SUV lost control while attempting to overtake and crashed into a parked truck.
FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished Joshua a speedy recovery, while urging motorists to avoid dangerous driving practices, particularly on high-speed highways like the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
Further updates on Joshua’s condition and the investigation are expected.
