FG Declares Friday, September 5, 2025, Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid

The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid, which marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

In the statement, the government congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora, urging them to emulate the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion. It also encouraged all Nigerians, regardless of faith, to use the occasion to pray for peace, security, and stability, while supporting ongoing efforts to strengthen national unity and development.

The minister wished Muslims a joyous and peaceful celebration, adding that Eid-ul-Mawlid provides an opportunity to foster brotherhood, peaceful coexistence, and service to humanity.

Citizens were also reminded to remain law-abiding, security conscious, and supportive of government policies aimed at promoting unity and sustainable progress.

Eid-ul-Mawlid, observed in the third month of the Islamic calendar (Rabi’ al-Awwal), is celebrated with prayers, lectures, processions, and acts of charity. In Nigeria, it is a recognised national public holiday, reflecting the country’s large Muslim population and tradition of observing major Islamic festivals.
