Vote counting has officially started at Polling Unit 024 in Ward B, located in the Makoko area of Yaba, Lagos, signaling the final phase of the 2025 local government elections across the state.

However, the close of voting has been marred by notably low voter participation, casting a shadow over the overall credibility and impact of the electoral process.

“The low level of voter engagement could affect the legitimacy and inclusiveness of the election,” noted an election observer, echoing a concern widely shared by stakeholders monitoring the process.

Meanwhile, at Polling Unit 002—also in Ward B—officials continued to wait for voters, even as counting had commenced at other units nearby.

Despite reports of a generally peaceful voting environment across multiple polling stations, turnout in Yaba and surrounding areas remained discouragingly low.

At Polling Unit 012 in Ward F, situated along Iwaya Road, voting was still in progress as of press time. Electoral officials there confirmed that participation had fallen well below expectations.

Similar sentiments were echoed across parts of Iwaya, where officials from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) reported a sluggish pace throughout the day.

In contrast, Ward G at St. Timothy College offered a more encouraging scene. Voting at polling units 001 through 005 proceeded in a calm and organized manner, standing out against the backdrop of apathy elsewhere.

Observers, while commending the largely peaceful conduct of the polls, continued to express concern that low voter enthusiasm could undermine the broader goals of electoral inclusivity and public trust.

LASIEC officials have urged eligible voters to take advantage of the remaining time before the 3 p.m. deadline to cast their ballots.
