Power Rotation Debate Reignites as Northern Leaders Review Tinubu’s Two-Year Performance
Northern political figures, traditional rulers, and civil society groups gathered in Kaduna to assess President Tinubu’s midterm performance and weigh in on Nigeria’s power rotation arrangement. The event, led by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, emphasized unity and fairness, with SGF Akume insisting that the North should wait until 2031 for the presidency.
While groups like Afenifere and the Middle Belt Forum backed the call for continuity in the South, voices from the NNPP, LP, and former SGF Babachir Lawal challenged the legitimacy of zoning, citing broken precedents like the Muslim-Muslim ticket. The PDP maintained that Tinubu’s fate lies in the hands of voters in 2027.
As political tensions rise, the debate has set the tone for what could be a highly charged race ahead of the next general election.
