Rúben Amorim is not facing the sack at Manchester United despite Wednesday’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.

Manchester United lost the Europa League final to Tottenham on Wednesday night, ending their hopes of European football next season. Following the defeat, manager Rúben Amorim stated he would walk away “the next day without any conversation about compensation” if the club’s board and supporters no longer wanted him.

Manchester United continue to back Rúben Amorim as part of a long-term vision, with his position not dependent on the outcome of any one match.

Speaking immediately after Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final, Rúben Amorim said he would leave the club “the next day” without seeking any compensation if the board and fans no longer supported him.
“If the board and the fans feel I’m not the right guy, I will go the next day without any conversation about compensation,” said the 40-year-old manager.

“But I will not quit again. I am confident in my job. As you can see, I won’t change the way I do things,” Amorim said.

“Right now, I’m not here to defend myself — that’s not my style. I have nothing to prove to the fans. What I need in this moment is a little bit of faith.”

Brennan Johnson scored the decisive goal in the Europa League final in Bilbao, sealing a 1-0 victory for Tottenham and confirming Manchester United will miss out on European football next season. The defeat leaves United languishing in 16th place in the Premier League amid mounting issues both on and off the pitch.

Rúben Amorim took charge of the club in November with United sitting 13th in the table. Since then, the team has slipped three places and has been eliminated from all three domestic and European cup competitions under his leadership.

Speaking after the final, a dejected Luke Shaw also claimed Amorim is the right man – with every single player needing to “question ourselves on if we’re good enough to be here”.

“We’re all gutted, it’s not how we saw the outcome to be honest,” Shaw said. “But it’s not just tonight, this whole season, it’s been nowhere near good enough. I think all of us have to question ourselves on if we’re good enough to be here.

“For a team like Manchester [United], for the season we’ve had, it’s not acceptable. We know that, we all know that, I know that. It’s not where Manchester [United] should be.”

But asked about Amorim’s credentials, Shaw said: “I can say 100 per cent right now he’s the right man. Results have not been good at all. I’ve been here for a long time now and been through different managers.

“Ruben, for me, I talk on my behalf and I can talk on behalf of all the players, he is 100 per cent the right manager to take us back to where this club should be.
