Police Warn Women: Collecting Transport Fare for Dates Without Showing Up Is Fraud
The Rivers State Police Command has cautioned against the growing practice where some women collect transport fare from men for dates but fail to show up, warning that the act is a criminal offence.
The warning came after a viral video on X, in which the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, explained that such behaviour amounts to fraud and is punishable under the law.
“Why will you collect money from a man without going to see him? It is an offence, a punishable offence,” she said.
According to her, the act falls under obtaining by false pretence—commonly referred to as 419—and could lead to arrest and prosecution if victims file complaints.
Iringe-Koko urged the public, especially young women, to avoid dishonest practices for quick financial gain, stressing that the police will take such cases seriously.
