The Federal Government on Thursday presented a cash gift of N200,000 to Nafisah Abdullahi, the winner of the TeenEagle Global Finals competition.

It will be recalled that the Atiku Foundation earlier awarded full scholarships to TeenEagle champions Nafisa Abdullahi, Rukaiya Fema, and Khadija Kalli, in recognition of their stellar performance at the competition.

The students, who claimed top positions in various categories of the prestigious international contest, were celebrated by the Foundation for their “remarkable success.”

At a recognition ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suiwaba Ahmad, honoured Nafisa and other high-performing students, describing her as “a beacon of excellence and inspiration to Nigerian youths.”

Representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College, Nafisa triumphed over more than 20,000 participants from 69 countries—including native English-speaking nations—to secure the world title.

The TeenEagle competition is a globally respected academic contest assessing English proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Speaking at the event, Alausa noted that the Federal Government was strengthening the foundations of education to curb the number of out-of-school children, stressing President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to human capital development through education, health, and social protection.

“You are the future of Nigeria, and you have made us proud. For the first time in our history, we have one of the highest budgetary allocations to education,” he said, highlighting the President’s consistent support for the sector.

The minister also announced additional cash gifts of over N100,000 for Nafisa and her colleagues who excelled in other categories.

On her part, Prof. Ahmad praised Nafisa’s resilience, brilliance, and determination, assuring that the Federal Government would continue to support young Nigerians who bring honour to the country.

“Nigerian youths can compete and excel globally. Nafisa has proven that we are blessed with talent and can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in the world. She is a shining example,” she stated.

Nafisa, in her response, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, the ministers, her school (NTIC), and her parents for their support in her journey.

The Yobe State Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Abba Idris, also lauded the recognition, noting the state’s continuous strides in the education sector.
