The police have confirmed the arrest of popular TikToker Peller following the circulation of a disturbing viral video that surfaced on Sunday, sparking widespread outrage and concern across social media platforms.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, police authorities revealed that the arrest was prompted by footage allegedly showing the influencer engaging in a reckless act that suggested an attempted suicide, while simultaneously endangering the lives of innocent members of the public. The video, which spread rapidly online, drew sharp criticism and raised serious questions about the growing trend of dangerous content creation for online engagement.
According to the police, the incident posed a grave threat not only to the suspect’s life but also to other road users, prompting swift intervention by law enforcement agencies.
The case has since been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where detectives have commenced a full-scale investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the appropriate legal actions.
Police authorities assured the public that transparency will be maintained throughout the process, stating that the outcome of the investigation will be officially communicated once concluded. They further disclosed that the suspect will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in strict accordance with the law.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning to social media influencers, content creators, and members of the public, stressing that online popularity must never come at the expense of human lives.
“Social media platforms must not be used as a tool to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, unlawful, or criminal behaviour,” Jimoh warned. “Such acts of lawlessness will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and anyone found guilty will face the full weight of the law.”
The commissioner emphasized that the police will continue to monitor online activities and take decisive action against individuals who exploit digital platforms to glorify dangerous conduct, noting that public safety remains a top priority.
The incident has reignited national conversations about responsible content creation, mental health awareness, and the limits of social media influence, as Nigerians await the outcome of the police investigation.
