Sanwo-Olu and Wife Participate in Local Government Elections by Casting Their Votes at Designated Polling Unit
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, took part in the ongoing local government (LG) elections by casting their votes at their designated polling unit. Their participation underscores the importance of civic responsibility and democratic engagement, particularly at the grassroots level.
The couple arrived at the polling station early in the day, accompanied by aides and security personnel. Governor Sanwo-Olu, dressed in casual traditional attire, interacted with journalists after voting and expressed satisfaction with the electoral process. He commended the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for the orderly conduct of the polls, highlighting the need for Lagosians to come out en masse and exercise their franchise.
“This election is about strengthening our democracy from the ground up,” Sanwo-Olu said. “Local governments are the closest to the people, and it’s important that citizens participate actively in choosing leaders who will directly impact their communities.”
Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu also urged women and youths to take an active role in the electoral process, emphasizing the power of the vote in shaping policy and governance at the community level.
The governor’s visible commitment to the voting process is viewed by many as a call to action for increased voter turnout, especially in local elections, which often experience low participation compared to national polls.
Reports from various polling units across Lagos indicated that voting commenced peacefully in most areas, though there were isolated cases of delays due to logistical challenges. Security agencies were present at major polling centers to ensure a safe and secure voting environment.
As Lagosians continue to cast their votes across the state, the emphasis remains on a free, fair, and credible election that reflects the will of the people.
