President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law three bills establishing new tertiary institutions in Nigeria’s South-East region, marking a significant step in expanding access to higher education and boosting regional development.

The newly approved institutions include:

  • Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale, Delta State
  • Federal University of Technology, Manchok, Kaduna State
  • Federal College of Education, Giwa, Kaduna State

(Kindly note: While early reports may refer to these as South-East-focused, some of the listed locations are in the South-South and North-West, reflecting national educational expansion.)

The signing of these bills is part of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to improving education infrastructure, fostering academic excellence, and creating more opportunities for Nigerian youths.

The laws will enable the institutions to begin full academic operations after necessary groundwork and funding are put in place by the relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Education and the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The President emphasized that education remains a top priority of his government, noting that these new institutions will help close the gap in access to quality tertiary education across underserved regions.
