West Bromwich Albion are reportedly in advanced discussions with Tottenham Hotspur assistant coach Ryan Mason regarding their vacant managerial position. The Championship club is seeking a new head coach following the dismissal of Tony Mowbray in April, after a disappointing run that saw them miss out on the playoffs.

Mason, 33, has been part of Tottenham’s coaching staff since 2018, following his early retirement due to a head injury. He has twice served as interim head coach for Spurs and currently works under Ange Postecoglou, contributing to the club’s recent Europa League triumph—their first major trophy in 17 years.

West Brom’s interest in Mason aligns with their strategy under new ownership, aiming to secure a long-term managerial solution before the upcoming pre-season. Mason’s familiarity with Tottenham’s youth system could also facilitate potential loan deals, such as that of Jamie Donley, a promising Spurs academy product linked with a move to West Brom.

While Mason has previously been linked to managerial roles at Anderlecht and Swansea City, the opportunity at West Brom represents a significant step in his coaching career. The club is keen to finalize the appointment promptly to prepare for the next season.

West Brom Set to Request Permission to Speak to Tottenham Coach Ryan Mason

West Bromwich Albion are expected to formally approach Tottenham Hotspur this week to seek permission to speak with Ryan Mason regarding their vacant head coach position.

The Championship club are keen to hold discussions with Mason, who is currently part of Ange Postecoglou’s backroom staff at Spurs. However, it remains unclear how Tottenham will respond to the request.

Mason, a long-serving member of the Spurs coaching setup since 2018, has twice served as interim head coach—first following the departure of José Mourinho and later after Cristian Stellini’s brief tenure.

He is understood to be a leading candidate on West Brom’s shortlist, which also includes Marti Cifuentes and Paul Simmonis. Notably, Cifuentes was recently placed on gardening leave by QPR after his representatives engaged in discussions with Albion without the club’s formal permission.
